There are many footpaths around the villages allowing for picturesque circular walks with views over the Shropshire Hills and into Wales. One was recently featured in The Times as their favourite walk.

Please beware that these routes and maps are for visual guidance and planning only and are not suited to being used to navigate the walks.  Although they are OS maps, they are free and seem to be inaccurate both in the paths and buildings marked on the walks. It is advisable to refer to, and use, the OS Explorer map (OS217) for this area to navigate yourself on these routes to ensure you do not stray from public rights of way and upset local landowners or get lost!

1. Picklescott to Thresholds

As featured in The Times … “A rising country lane lifts you from Picklescott to the top of the Long Mynd’s whaleback ridge. A brisk tramp along the Shropshire Way – a venerable droving and packhorse route – with wonderful views over Welsh hills to the west, before dropping down to Picklescott and the cosy fire in the Bottle & Glass Inn.   Total distance 7kms.

2. Picklescott to Smethcott

This 7.5kms walk leaves Picklescott and heads to Betchcott. Taking you across country to Smethcott Church.  After Smethcott the route takes you via the edge of Wilderley and back across country to Picklescott.

3. Picklescott to Woolstaton

This 5kms walk from the centre of Picklescott takes you across country through Betchcott Hollow, over the brook and onto Woolstaton Church. With views of The Lawley and Caer Caradoc in the distance you pass Smethcott Church and the Motte & Bailey on the return leg back to Picklescott.

This 10kms walk leaves Picklescott and heads across country along bridleways and through a wood. After a quiet country lane passing Wilderley Lane farm, you will return back on field footpaths with views of Caer Caradoc in the distance.
